Mission

Being a Payroll and Human Resources Technician with us means putting your attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to manage multiple files to good use in order to ensure flawless payroll processing and provide hands-on HR support to plant teams.

In a manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of payroll and human resources activities for your assigned group. You will contribute to data accuracy, compliance with legal requirements, and the continuous improvement of on-the-ground HR practices, in close collaboration with managers and the HR team.

On a daily basis, your responsibilities will include:

Payroll component (75%)

  • Review hours worked and punches entered in the time and attendance system and ensure data accuracy and compliance;
  • Prepare and process the full payroll cycle, including data entry, validation and processing in the payroll system;
  • Create, update and close employee files (hirings, salary changes, internal movements, terminations, etc.);
  • Document required changes, obtain necessary approvals and ensure compliance with internal processes;
  • Prepare and validate employment terminations, including the issuance of Records of Employment (ROE);
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of information between the time and attendance system, payroll system and HRIS;
  • Answer payroll- and working-condition-related questions from managers and employees.

Human resources component (25%)

  • Prepare various confirmation letters and administrative documents (employment, salary, seniority, status, etc.);
  • Track and administer employee absences (sick leave, leaves of absence, disability, etc.) in accordance with applicable policies;
  • Manage enrollment, updates and follow-ups for group insurance benefits, including arrears, in collaboration with the HR team;
  • Contribute to recruitment and staffing processes for plant positions, including collaboration on job postings and compilation of applications;
  • Participate in the onboarding and integration of new plant employees, including probation follow-ups;
  • Provide administrative and operational support to on-site HR initiatives (company events, HR floor walks, engagement activities);
  • Collaborate on the deployment and improvement of payroll and HR practices in a centralized or standardized payroll environment;
  • Perform any other related duties involving payroll or human resources based on operational needs.

Profile

You are the ideal candidate if you have:

  • An AEC or DEP in Accounting or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience in payroll processing;
  • Experience in a unionized environment;
  • Good knowledge of payroll and time management systems (Kronos, Employer D – a strong asset);
  • Strong proficiency in the MS Office suite, including intermediate-level Excel skills;
  • Solid knowledge of labour standards and applicable provincial and federal legislation;
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills;
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills;
  • A high level of discretion when handling confidential information.
